Edo Janich, is an old friend of Bisonte, when we were still art publishers he published some excellent editions with us, his works have always been appreciated, both by us and by the public; critics and colleagues have always grasped the artistic quality, we, today, can also tell you about the human quality: overwhelming and energetic, exciting and never predictable. Having organized this Masterclass is already a great satisfaction.

Edo Janich

Friulian of origin but raised and lived mostly in Rome, Palermo, Venice, he is a total artist: sculptor, painter and above all engraver: careful and subtle in capturing forms and connections with acuity and even more in fixing, on a sure register tonal, lights and atmospheres typical of the cities that are dear to him.
Janich is a character of difficult definition, so rich and varied is his production developed over more than 50 years of continuous travel and movement.
He has never been part of currents, groups, fashions, trends. Far from it, perhaps he is able to set a trend. If on the one hand one recognizes in him solid and well metabolized references to the great artists of the past, on the other hand his works are neither modern nor contemporary, but preside over a clear horizon of the future and stand proud well above the panorama of the mannerists of today subjugated by transgressions and which add nothing new to the history of art. It produces images capable of showing a new reality of things, wonderfully participating in the universe through the splendor of light. His fierce creative passion that sustains him every day, feeds simultaneously on an almost childlike clear freedom to pursue cultured poetry and a stubborn feverish energy, which skilfully mastering manual and technical means, supports effective and refined stage inventions. Thus the references to architectural, pictorial and literary codes merge and give life to surprising and new cultural divisions. Gestures, souls, space, find a particular finesse. Its hollow and sinuous shapes play with light to the point of proposing glimpses of dialogue with suggestive interiority, while an infinity of almost point-like signs make light the way to chase space, soul and poetry.

From 1969 to today, he has engraved about 450 etching plates collected mostly in folders made for the most famous Italian art publishers. The meeting with Leonardo Sciascia, Enzo and Elvira Sellerio dates back to the seventies, with whom a strong friendship was born. From 1972 he collaborated with the publisher Sellerio of Palermo and from 1972 to 1987, for the series “The perfected civilization”, he engraved numerous plates reproduced on the covers of upcoming books. The folder “Les Automates” dates back to 1974, 4 engravings with an introductory text by Leonardo Sciascia.

PROGRAM
In the two days of work Janich will lead the participants in the masterclass to an exploration of the Florence of Oltrarno, rediscovering details and glimpses, to be reworked and made their own with the engraving techniques, from etching to drypoint, following the artist in his visions elucubant.
