Theoretical Courses

10 - 14 March 2024Recognizing Art Prints

“Recognizing Art Prints” is a theoretical and practical course aimed at curators, art historians, archivists, librarians, students, and researchers, designed to deepen the study of both ancient and contemporary art prints. The training program is structured to provide specific tools and skills for identifying various intaglio printing techniques and understanding the multiple aesthetic features that define their unique artistic language.

The initiative stems from the Foundation’s desire to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practice, offering participants a unique opportunity to acquire specialized expertise that will help them stand out as experts in the field. The goal is to train new professionals in the domain of printmaking and works on paper, enriching their technical knowledge with innovative theoretical insights that provide a fresh and informed perspective on this noble art form.

The program consists of 40 hours of lessons, including theoretical sessions with museum directors, curators, conservators, and art historians, as well as exclusive guided visits to the Uffizi’s Department of Drawings and Prints and the Marucelliana Library, where participants will have the opportunity to observe and discuss masterpieces firsthand. The course also includes hands-on workshops led by master printmakers, where attendees will learn and experiment with key intaglio techniques, gaining a deeper understanding of their processes and formal outcomes.

One specific module focuses on the recognition and study of drawing techniques, exploring the relationship between drawing and printmaking.

Classes will take place in the historic venues of Fondazione Il Bisonte at Via di San Niccolò 24 Rosso and Via Giardino Serristori 13 Rosso in Florence, from March 10 to 14, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM and from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
